This is stunning. My grandfather came here from the old country when he was 16 and he brought in his trunk, a calendar with a snip or heather tied to the corner. Nearly 50 years later, I was playing in the attic when I opened the trunk and found that calendar - a picture of a never-ending field of heather and that snip of a dried flower in the corner. I wept for the beauty and for how he had brought a bit of his country with him so he'd always have it with him...The heather was beautiful, even after all those years, I vowed to name my first daughter after that flower - long before the name was popular. Turns out, my last child was my first daughter and it was 20 years later I put her name...Heather...on the birth certificate.

Wonderful image of a much underrated plant that will thrive no matter what is thrown at it. It grows in profusion here and covers the scars left by mining clay etc. Fabulous! ^=^
