04 JULY 2018 "Ten miles to target" said the Forward Air Controler (FAC) from the safety of his seat aboard the E3 AWAC's 50 miles behind the front line. Ghostrider flight didn't reply as they dropped back to 50' Above Ground Level (AGL), their mission was to important to be discovered by the enemy now. Screaming across the desert at just below the speed of sound at 200' was hard enough but at 50' it was deadly. The two Raptors and the single B2 were rapidly approaching the Initial Point (IP) for their attack run. The Raptors were there as Wild Weasles for the B2's bomb run. Both of the F22 pilots knew they were expendable and were ready to do what ever it took to complete this mission. At four miles all aircraft opened thier ordinance doors and were past the point of no return, they would be over the target in 45 seconds and the pilots began their final checks and arming procedures. "Three miles to target, begin your climb to attack altitude. No aircraft are over the target area" Each pilot eased back on their sticks and the aircraft began a climb that would expose them to the deadliest portion of the mission. Thier heads darting back and forth and then down to their insterments and threat receivers figers hovering over triggers armed for battle they shot towards their target. There it was, a large squat structure with large cooling stacks and distinctive domes. Immediately threat receivers blared warnings as radars locked onto them. "I have three missles inbound at nine O'clock" Ghostrider 3 announced over the encrypted line of sight comms. "Roger that, break and engage at will. We are starting our run. See you on the other side" Ghostrider 1 replied as he watched to crosshairs on his hud line up witht he primary target. "Ghostrider 2 is engaging" he heard as the second Raptor broke off to deal with the missle radars in his sector. "all weapons are green and ready to fly" the Weapons Officer said as he scanned his panels looking for anything that could cause them to fail. He would never admit it, but flying at this level and speed scared him to death and he did everything he could to keep from looking out the cockpit window at the ground racing around him. Both the Pilot and weapons Officer felt the thumps as the ordinance dropped from the racks and felt the aircraft rise as it became several tons lighter. They were pushed back in their seats as the pilot applied full military power and yanked back on the stick to take themout of the blast area as quickly as possible. Out of the corner of his eye, the Weapons Officer saw the ball of flames that told him that not everyone was going home from this mission. The battle had already been a costly one, but now it had just become even more so... "We lost Three" Ghostrider two stated in a voice devoid of emotion, no was not the time to grieve, that would happen after they returned to base. "Roger that Two, lets go home. Form up and lets bug out" "Roger that One, I have the lead. Exit vector is 079'er and lets drop down to 75' and lets move as fast as that bus will move you. I believe you have some drinks to buy." I know this is not my normal type of work but I was playing around and ended up with this. I have always had a love for flying and maybe one day I will get my liceince but not today.
