Description

I took quite a few shots at the lake, I was totally amazed at how turquoise much of the lake was and how beautiful the waterfalls were. I have seen waterfalls before but never so many in one place and never so many overflows going in all directions. A totally delightful vision. The Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia's most popular tourist attraction, was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. Located roughly halfway between capital city Zagreb and Zadar on the coast. The beauty of the National Park lies in its sixteen lakes, inter-connected by a series of waterfalls, and set in deep woodland populated by deer, bears, wolves, boars and rare bird species. The National Park covers a total area of 300 square kilometres, whilst the lakes join together over a distance of eight kilometres. There's also quite an altitude difference - the highest point is at 1,280m, the lowest at 380m - although the total height difference between the lakes themselves is only 135m. (Veliki Slap, the largest waterfall, is 70m tall.) I was totally knackered after a 3.5 hour walk around part of the lake, just when I thought I had seen the last of uphills, down we went again with me knowing what goes down must come up as we started our walk very high up in the park where the coach park was. We left our hotel at 7am and returned at 9pm - so a very long day indeed. Susan Thank you for your support on my previous post St Euphemia Parish Church-Rovinj - Croatiathumb_2081767.jpg
