Description
Captured 7/1/10, at the beautiful Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden on the beautiful campus of California State University Long Beach in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Better viewed full size.
Returned to my favorite clear water koi/carp spot after a six month hiatus to snap these beauties and their shadows under a high summer sun. This time I used a neutral density filter to cut down on the contrast and my new polarizing filter to help eliminate reflections. But, because I used a relatively high shutter speed on top of all this, many of the images came out black and imperceptible on the monitor, so I had to Photoshop brighten them up for viewing. Other than that, everything is as I shot it, and no Andrea type filters were used to create abstract effects.
Most of the shots were taken of the koi swimming and cavorting close to the lip of the pond. There were virtually no fish around the middle of the pond, which was a disappointment because I like to capture their deep shadows at the bottom.
Toodles, thankx for the look-see, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

LOL...LOVE that bottom pic with the little girl and all of the koi 'moochers' around her begging for food. Just like when we go out to our koi pond...they all rush over because they know we can't resist those cute faces, LOL. Such bright colors....

Excellent shots of these multicoloured fishies; I love how they know that people mean food and flock to wherever we are!

Cool or maybe hot shot! I've got to add a neutral density filter to my bag. Shot some pics of a waterfall on a very sunny day not long ago. I know what you mean about too much contrast:)

A wonderful progression of images! In the first one, I love the four lined up fish going from very big to a pair of very small, and with the black and orange one not following the program at all. The second one has gorgeous detail and shimmer. I like the little guy tagging along next to the giant too. In number three, I have a pretty good idea where some food has just landed. I like the little black and yellow guy, weaving his way in. It's all eyes, fins and ripples in number 4. I like the fish at the far right on the middle. The little girl is a real cutie at the bottom. Great composition, ripples and shadows. I like the shadow of her hair. Excellent shots! I like them all!
