Description

Sumptuous and exotic, this tropical plant is almost too good to be true. The colouful flower heads are made up of waxy bracts which last for weeks making heliconia a great cut flower. The bright yellows and oranges of the plant are designed to attract hummingbirds which help pollinate flowers in the wild. Hummingbirds have long curved beaks for reaching deep inside the flower and long tongues to find the nectar. Native to South America, Lobster Claws grow up to 2m tall, they like moist soil and can be found growing beside tributaries of the Amazon river.
