Description

UF5. ***Full View for More Detail*** On the UF list a link was posted to photos of the Gulf spill http://www.pdnphotooftheday.com/2010/07/5339.They are close-ups of the oil on the water and they are quite beautiful, almost fractalish. A challenge was issued for spill related images and while I did not intend this particular piece to be part of that challenge (I was going to do a more literal image depicting the ugliness of the disaster) the more I worked with the gradient the more it looked to me like tendrils of oil seeping outward. This is in no way meant to diminish how horrible the situation is, it's just my interpretation based on the intriguing photos at the above link. Kim

Beauty can at times be found in ugliness. If it could not, we would be unable to survive. Rainbows in a drop of oil; spiralling storm clouds. This is a beautiful image of something ugly.

There's usually some beauty that can be found in anything, and the oil spill is no exception. The way the colors flow IS lovely.

Beautiful, even though I don't care for all the brown at the bottom; although that might change if I could see the whole picture without scrolling

Your work is beautiful and is a reminder that there is beauty beneath all of that mess.

I do not think of oil and uglyness here... I simply like the design.
