Description

I was out for a drive and came upon this abandoned house / school house; with its wide open field all around it, and it really caught my eye. I had to pull over and snap a few pictures. Because of the old brick building, I thought I'd add a texture to this photo, to give it a slight grunge feel, for added affect. Thank you for your kind comments and Favs on my previous upload!!: "After the Rain ..." thumb_2084844.jpg

If those walls could talk, I'm sure there is a story. Great treatments!

a friend of mine touted this image as her pick for photo of the day and made me promise to have a look - and i'm glad she did because it's stunning, shari! i love its feeling of isolation and the post-work textured look you applied to it! only one tiny thing niggles at me - the direction of the chimney's shadow seems at odds with the image's primary light-source illuminating the front of the structure... was there a break in the overcast that acted as a secondary light source or something? off to check out your gallery and see what other fine works you have there... :)

What a marvelously rustic piece of work! I love all of the tones, the color-sense, the mood...in short, everything about it. There's an almost nostalgic softness to this image as well--not that schmultzy kind that's over-marketed by the Hallmark corporation in order to sell greeting cards, but a more realistic sort that comes from actual memories (rather than marketing manipulation) and that really works for this image. It's warm and inviting, and there's a high level of comfort implied by that very house. Of course the title of the piece also has me humming the theme song to the show of the exact same name, and I wonder if Bob Vila and Norm Abrams are lurking around somewhere with power tools! This is great!

Looks like the perfect prairie image to me.... Now me I would of had to have a hydragena or snowball bush and maybe some holly hocks to make it really look a old homestead or old schoolhouse...not that it doesn't already I would just have to have flowers round the corner and near the steps...... Irs a great image in itself....but me I would have to have some flowers shrubs or something lol.... Perfect the way it is..........looks old, rustic, and a house that has withstood storms winds hail rain sleet snow you name it....I bet this old house has saw it...and as for one person's comment on Bob Vila he would be great to have on hand here but if you want a prairie look he is way to modern for this old homestead............ and like someone else said..."If these walls could talk" Oh I bet they would have the stories to tell......... TY for popping in and seeing my new one as well Hugs Susan~

Hi ShariLyn, a wonderful picture from you again. Your gallery is full of these beauties. I like this sort of postworking to photos and it is a good way, to learn from your pictures. I wonder, that here only a few members go the way, to work with textures, to change their pics. So it is good, to see your gallery. I think, your gallery is important for these members here, which want to go the same way of postworking, now or later. All the best Bernd
