Excellent catch. I'm guessing this is a rooster because of the comb and wattles. That kills my idea for a two egg minimum for entrance into the garden.

Wonderful. Something good about chickens wandering about the garden. Wish I had some. ;c)

Chickens in gardens...what a concept; it's one I'm familiar with as I'd become acquainted with a number of urban chickens with names like Grizzelda and a rooster named Mabel (he was mistaken for a female when he was a wee little chick.) Anyway...this is a marvelous shot that sends my mind off in all sorts of directions. It's because of a chicken in nicely thick foliage. It looks primordial in the way that the primordial world might actually have looked if dinosaurs were in the habit of photographing themselves. There's a theory that many familiar species of dinosaurs might actually have possessed feathers since their fossils possess a large number of avian attributes, including "bird hips" and gizzard stones. Hmmm...there's a rather disturbing thought! I don't know if I'd hold the same respect for Tyranosaurus Rex if I saw one decked out in...plumage; I think it was the smaller bipedal dino-critters that possessed the cross-species stuff anyway. And now that I've rambled on a bit more than I probably should about feather-clad dinosaurs, I'll say that I love this shot. The light and the chicken in question is just perfect. I love the colors, the different textures...plant/plumage/red comb, everything, and it's quite simply a marvelous shot.
