Description
Scarlet Tiger Callimorpha dominula
I encountered this day-flying beauty yesterday down in the valley and it is quite a lot later than I generally see them. May and June are the more usual months when they fly, and more often than not it is on the cliff edges close to the sea where the numbers are greatest. I have had the odd one or two feeding on the Comrey patch in my garden, this being one of the few species of Tiger moth with mouthparts enabling it to feed on nectar. I have also had one on my Incense shrubs which is very rare as they don't flower until very late in the year.
I find these particularly striking, and although not noticeable on this image, their forewings have a beautiful metallic green sheen. A handsome moth indeed! ^=^
Thank you for taking the time to look.

The perfect shot, Carpathia! I sometimes see the larva on the bit of cliff behind my beachhut.
