Description

So whats all that about I here you ask! This is actually a piece of modeling using a technique I`ve been working on. Ive spent a lot of time working out how to convert simple vector shapes into extruded objects and then placing then on a 3D plane and extracting the shapes out of it! The BG (in Blue) was done on a 2D plane using the shape as a Alpha. I don`t know if that explains it, but that`s about it! The problem is I have to use ai files for the extrusion and don't have Illustrator and there is no straight forward simple conversion tool for converting PNG, WMF to Ai files. I`ve down loaded a ton of shareware and managed to convert from one format to another then open in another program to import and export again. The simple answer is, I need to buy a version of illustrator if I`m going to bother continuing with the technique.

Illustrator is a neat program but takes a lot of patience with the bezier curves. Great for creating logos too! Nice technique, Nick.

man to do the right work you need the right tools thats for sure. it depends of course how much the conversion is worth to you. i guess everybody has to check that balance for himself as we are each defferently approaching various rechniques.

Nick I have illustrator so not sure if this will work. I just saved a PNG file as a PSD then exported paths to illustrator. This gave a AI file. But as I said this maybe because I have illustrator on my system. Hope this is the answer for you

To use Illustrator files in Cinema 4d they have to be saved in Illustrator 8 format. Maybe you can pick up a copy of Ill8 cheap.

Have you tried a program called Inkscape? It's an open source answer to AI.

Cool work. Don't know why that adobe software is so darn expensive. You would figure they would lower the price so more people could afford it. Hope you find what you need.

nice job. Also for vector stuff you might check out XaraXtreme or now called Xara photo a graphic designer 6 which a lot of folks like. (I almost went into this area with the idea that an image could be turned into a vector and that in turn could be turned into an object -- my goal was spider webs - but I ended up in a different direction). Cool digging!!
