Description

Namibia 2009 This is the very start of the sand (dune) desert of the Namib just south of the Swakop River. It is incredible how the river literally splits the two parts of the desert in two! Zooming really brings this to life. The dunes appear to be layered... Colors and lighting add depth. I lived two years in the Mojave High Desert area of Southern California years ago...as night comes on only the far horizon is left and all landmarks needed to navigate by eye at night are lost. Love your composition.

Beautiful contrast between the sky and sand. This is what is known as 'one big empty'. The skeletal remains of the plant not only anchor the image but re-enforce the theme of desolation. Excellent composition.
