Let's take a break from my Art series to tell all the Lions in Renderosity HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
This is a collage with the little girl riding a 19th century stone lion at one of the doors of the most famous café in Padova, Caffé Pedrocchi. The castle of Valbona (13th century) lies in the southeastern part of the province of Padova, and the fight between the lion and the knight is from a 12th-century marble plaque decorating the northern side of St. Mark's in Venice.
The Fire sign in Lions is enthusiastic, energetic, and optimistic. Representatives of signs are happy, lucky people. They always aim to get above the common herd of humanity, and they themselves in turn are naturally attracted to strong personalities. The typical Leo is flamboyant and generous with tremendous charm and a magnanimous spirit. Their astrological symbol, the Lion, is considered to be the king of animals. Born leaders, either in support of, or in revolt against, the status quo. But those people should learn to wear the crown modestly. They should remember their largest sin is vanity. Their faults can be as large in scale as their virtues, and an excessively negative Leonian can be a very unpleasant human being, displaying extreme arrogance, autocratic pride, haughtiness, and excessive hastiness of temper.

It's hilarious. I'm a Leo and I know only ONE other Leo and as fate would have it, I fell in love with that ONE other Leo I know! Our birthdays are a mere 3 days apart and we're both July Leos, but we're stuck on different side of the planet. I could go on and on about Leonus Rex, but I won't...not even to tell you that pop-diva Madonna is ALSO a Leo: gee that is not surprising. Needless to say, being a Leo (a card-holding member of the Fifth Zodiological House) my birth sign has influenced a LOT in my life, right down to the creation of the Nemaean people who occasionally pop up in my gallery (their interstellar nationality is named for the Nemean Lion that is Leo, even though he was also killed by Hercules, the jerk!) Well...Leo is alive and well in the Nemaean Interstellar Republic (which reminds me, I have to post a Nemaean story soon!) This is a wonderful piece of work. At first (before reading your great description) I thought this was a more ancient Egyptian styled lion. They tended to carve lionesses rather than lions and their smaller manes usually did that swoop below the chin...and the little girl on it is priceless. I love this image for so many reasons. Despite the very modern dress of the little girl, the whole image looks ancient and timeless and very compelling! I love this composition. This is marvelous!
