Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.

This is beautiful! I have never been to Chicago! I love the colors, this place looks surreal, like in a dream, quiet, nobody there! Awesome shot!!!!!

Stunning - seems like I use that word a lot in discussing your work. But it fits. Wonderful blending of words and image.

I think cities are meant to be seen at night; the buildings breathe into life after dark when the lights come on. This has such a futuristic feel to it, I almost expect to see air taxis a la "The Fifth Element"... well done!

Shining, glittering and even welcoming... magnificent work. Love the details.

Very powerful compo. Interesting to see not one ppl, the whole 'vision' ruled by the lights.

Fantastic. The perspective, the narrative, the lead in lines. Stunning

You are as adept at painting images with words Chip as you at painting images with your camera. I find the words unsettling; frightening even. The future awaits us all, methinks. The image mirrors the words wonderfully. Unfeeling concrete and lights staring down on us as alien beings....it might appear quite pretty - but it's also impersonal. Then there are the two that connect. So perhaps there is some hope in contact, no matter if fleeting. Fantastic. ^=^

An amazing foto to go with your story. Or is it the other way around? No matter, your shot gives the city a life of its own and the story follows right along---VERY nice stuff!!

The colours are warm, rich and inviting. The lighting is intense. And yet this picture has a cold beauty in its starkness and absence of life. This is a very well observed capture, love it! I'm also reminded of the movie "Dark City". As for your words, do they perhaps include an element of autobiography? I love the ambiguity in the relationship between Caspar and Jareth, and this snippet of a vision of the future is intriguing. Makes me want to read more, and I admire how many hooks you've managed to place in such a short piece!

You nailed another one — well done!

I wonder how you got that shot taken. Looks like you stood on a train top. It is gorgeous and I so love the deep golden, almost copper glow. Superbly done.

Like Minos I detect more than a little tinge of your own experiences. A very striking image too.

precious work!!

great image and superb realization!!! the text adds to the perverse charm of the image, with tohse tracks leading anywhere, and the windows empty of light. Windows should let the light enter, but here they do the opposite, they let darkness peep at the outside...

You are right, it is like Grand Canyon in city civilisation. Well captured, well seen.

Most incredible night image Chip! I love the depth which is not easy to achieve with so little light! Bravo dear friend!

Vis a vis our on going conversation: Chicago is a great city, but that doesn't mean I have to keep on living here indefinately. This is the part of Chicago I still like...along with the lakefront. You did a nice job of capturing the majesty of this place at night and the sheer gravitas vibe of downtown. I also like the way you captured the sleekness amid the sometimes barroque detailing of the buildings. There's a real energy here that reminds me what originally attracted me to this city in the first place. Great shot!
