Description

This woman, dressed in historic ‘” WEST FRIES” clothes with the lace cap and with golden head ornaments is wearing so called : “chatelaine’s” on her dress A wonderful detailed siccor, the silver purse. West Fries would be the northern part of Noordholland? Variations of this dress are found in Friesland and others of the northern provinces of the Netherlands. When I still lived in Holland (and that is close to 40 years ago), people in Urk and Staphorst still used similar dresses as their normal clothing. Don't know if they still do – haven't been in those places for years.
