Description
Buddleia grow wild here and this time of year they are a welcome meal for almost all flying insects. As I was spider hunting yesterday, (not a great success -^=^) I saw this quite large bumbler going at it for all it was worth, sucking up nectar and buzzing frantically to loosen any pollen, I assume. If that were the case, it worked! He was awash with it!
Update to the spider/s of yesterday. Andrea was right about the light brown one. It was indeed a Tegenaria gigantea. I am told that the black one was a Stella Steatoda, and a very large specimen by all accounts.
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

Lovely shot. He is doing well there.

I often think it's a good thing we can't hear them sucking. The garden would be DEAFENING, and a peaceful walk transformed!
