Description

Happy Birthday Chip! No, I am not thinking of you as an old crow:-D I think of you as a talented artist who spreads his wings daily in all your art...most notably for us here in the Photography and Writing galleries. ...this crow, or raven as I like to think of him, came out of nowhere and blasted over me in 2-3 seconds at an airshow about three weeks ago. I whirled around and snapped off a shot and almost didn't even get all of him within the frame...:-D Cheers and keep up the great work here at Rendo my friend... Bill:) "Gardener's Delight" thumb_2089975.jpg

Apparently the difference is to be discerned in the hook of the bill, but who can get them to sit still long enough for a hook measurement? Great capture with your lightning-fast reflexes!

The crow in some native cultures is considered the messanger between the next live and this one. I'd say that is a good way to think of Chip. He brings so much to our "table."

Oh, a super image that would make Edgar Allen Poe sit up and take notice, Bill. They always show birds like this in horror movies, sitting on a branch or a window sill, I suspect as a harbinger of an approaching and devastating death. Great shot!

Excellent capture and dedication! I've tried this a few times. I ended up with great pictures of blue and once a few tail feathers. Great shot! Happy Birthday Chip!

WOW! I love it when crows decide to show up at airshows! I also love crows, they're quite smart--sometimes a bit quarrelsome, and if they're in the mood, they're prone to drop things on you; I remember a friend being pelted with small twigs because the crow above us decided that it would be amusing to drop twigs on human heads. Apparently hooded crows have learned how to break acorns open using drainpipes...or at least they like the sound of them falling down them and rolling out onto cobblestones; they swoop down, retrieve them, then drop them down the same drainspout. This, I've heard, provides quite a bit of entertainment in Moscow's Red Square, where such hooded crows are actually known for such antics. (I have yet to see a crow wearing a hood. It must be quite a sight.) Needless to say, I like crows immensely, and they can apparently be trained to talk...sort of. They possess the ability but not the interest. As for this shot, it's fantastic, especially since this is a crow in flight and these guys and gals don't exactly fly slowly! I love the poise, those wings, and the way the light catches various parts of the wingtips. This shot rocks and THANK YOU for the dedication! It's going into my favorites!
