Description

And what you see is the best part ....the rest got weeds and grass so high and thick you can not walk about but on top of the graves and you praying they will not broke open and you falling into the grave. There a real city road going down the middle of the graveyard. It have a street name and all and they had some cars but it very light amount of cars go down this road. I wish I got the man sitting on a grave eating his lunch; but when my son took out his big machete he took off. We needed it to cut our way around and to kill snakes. We did not see any snakes but around these parts you never know. I could not go to many graves for the weeds way to high. Going to come back this winter. Got one photo of a bone in a grave that all this time. could not go to the one with the skull in it showing. I did find a site that had the worse graveyard of shane in Louisiana and number one was not too far away so we went to that one but it looks like a good well keep up graveyard. I was disappointed; but this one is by far the worse one I saw in a city with houses around it and a city street running right down the middle of it for all to see. The only well keep part of it is what you see behind my son and by the main road just outside the graveyard and that just for show. My son like to try to get the grave yard name on the national records as a history site. It date back before the Civil War I think. But it is privite owned too. We just do not know how to go about it. My son is saying "Tis is a tour of graveyard that even in day you do not wish to be here"....spooky sounding "hahhahahhhhahahahahahha"

Great photo Jock, and I wish your son a lot of luck in trying to get this site recognized. It is my hope that someone can care for these graves and show them the respect they deserve

Wow. What an amazing picture. I think you should submit these to your local TV station, and maybe they will do a story on the neglected old cemeteries. I think that MrsLubner has some good points and suggestions that you could pass along to the TV station along with your pictures. There is money in those old cemeteries .. people love them. Great photos!

This is very interesting and I appreciate your interest in it! I think it should be preserved, or at least converted into a refuge of sorts as I'm sure interesting wildlife DOES live there now. I wonder if the "Adopt a Plot" idea could work...I read PJ's comment and I think that is a brilliant idea. I am sure there might be somebody you can talk to about it. As for this shot, it's quite a nice one. Your son looks like an excellent tour guide (spooky voice and all.) This is quite a good shot and an important one, both historically and in terms of social commentary.

Hmmm. Perpetual care becomes a moot point after a few hurricanes and 100 years. A fine shot.

It's a shame that this place has been allowed to fall so far, but it's also created a fantastic (and yes, rather spooky) landscape.
