A shudder ran the length of her. She could smell something burning. She only hoped it wasn’t her. Her eyes cleared and suddenly she was aware that the world had somehow moved. Then she realized she was on her back. The top of her staff lay next to her smoldering. The experiment had failed,… maybe. She looked around. Her laboratory partners were leaning against the opposite wall, trying very hard not to fall over. The Symballan was actually trying not to laugh. The Carellonian was not so concerned about hurting her feelings and was all but rolling on the floor. The table where her experiment had been set up was in several smoldering pieces a good fifteen feet away. She surely hadn’t been drug here by those two. Had she been throw that far by the blast?

Odeen Eldevaeri was much older than the rest of the students at Kar’Dhaer, in years perhaps. As a Delsian, she was nearly 200. The oldest of the other elves at Kar’Dhaer was barely 150. However, compared to some of the humans less than a tenth her age, she was still somewhat immature. Odeen had a single ability, a single identifying feature that made her stand out amongst humans and elves and any other sane creature on the planet,… she was a lightning attractor. For whatever reason, something about her magius, or her blood, or her particular brand of insanity, she drew lightning strikes like a 500’ tall copper lightning rod. After her eighth lightning strike, she accepted it as her destiny to play with lightning all her life, and thus she became a quasi-elemental mage, a lightning master.

Naturally, when Jo Spectre started looking for an underclassman lab assistant for her senior year project, Odeen was a logical choice. If anything went wrong, Odeen the Lightning Rod, would no doubt attract the bolt and save the day. Jo had never been so right, and yet, so wrong.
