Description
One morning I walked outside and there she was: big, bold and beautiful.
She had built her magnificent web right by my front door. At first I was stunned, then went right back into the house and got my camera. She didn't mind at all that I stuck the camera right into her face, as I don't have a sufficient zoom.
After a few days she moved over to take up residence by the garage where she, in the course of time, made 7 egg sacks.
During the summer I took lots of great pictures of her until one day I found her dead on the ground and her web destroyed. All but one of her egg sacks were gone as well. I was very sad and wondered what had happened.
As there was one egg sack left, I was hoping to have some of her offspring the next year. Sadly that didn't happen either. No spiderlings ever emerged from it. Now I'm wondering if not a misinformed neighbor sprayed Cloe and her egg sacks with insecticide. Although I told them all that she was harmless, her size (about 2 inches body length)and bright colors might still had them in fear.
Thank you all for stopping by.

I have a wolf spider that lives above my monitor. His body is about a half inch in size. I leave him alone and he leaves me alone. He kills all the little bugs that get into my studio and bug me. His name is Ivan. I can't understand why people kill thing just because they look differnt. Uninformed fear? Really nice photo. - Bob

I have been taking pictures of five of these I have living in various locations in my backyard, in fact, one pic is so similar I thought this one was mine! Nice shot of what I think are called Banana Spiders.

I rarely get angry, but when I hear of humanity acting without thought I must admit it does stir the seeds of anger in me. She was so beautiful and although it might seem not very important in the scale of things, it is an enormous tragedy for her. Stunning image. ^=^
