Description

Trying a suggestion from Danny to add layers with exactly the same settings. I did make 5 layers for every color. I do like that it looks more atural. I don't like what's happening in the foreground, though. Too sharp and it looks like it's cracking. Any suggestions as how to avoid this from happening? Terragen classic, free version. Corrie

gorgeous!! love this place!! i think is a very good image, but if you don't like try some blur effect in Gimp or Photoshop.

What app are you using for postworking the layers? I use Photoshop and when layering MJW terrains I'll vary the effect from Overlay to Normal to Screen (not necessarily in that order) to keep from edge build up on the final or Blend, Blur and blend again on alternating layers, works for me anyway. Peace

@Bimm3D: Ok, that sounds good to me. Seems I do need to go do postwork....... @Lenord. I don't do postwork. IF I would, I would use PaintShopPro.

I am not at all professional landscape so ... I do not understand the background of the image, the gray bar ... above the horizon ... I think you wanted to add volume the banks of clouds ... but I find the effect unsightly, especially in relation to the lighting where you are very well defended. I seem to see two bodies of water. sorry, because I do not know all these software ... persevere in your work artist friend!

Hi Corrie, I understand what you're doing n & in Bryce, what I do is: 1. In skylab Raise or lower cloud height, and shape/densities, even changing the x & y rotations.. then in the Bryce work window play with fog/haze colors... until I see something I like. 2. After I got the rest of scene set up, I'll save! Then start trying different lighting positions - which affects everything - play with shadowing hard/soft intensities. If something messes up, go file, click revert to last save :D Once I'm happy with everything, I go back to skylab, go to Atmosphere & turn on Volumeric World function. Nosey this, I recently did a "B Storm" design, doing these steps, it's still rendering to HDD. I'll upload ASAP it's done, might be tomorrow. The visual might help make sense of the above. Sazz

Looks super!!!!...ummm, I'm no pro by any means, but try 'stacking' the layers in photoshop, then erasing the sections that over-sharpen (distort!), just gives you more control over the overall image. As far as post work is concerned, good enough for 'stonemason', good enough for me! lol Oh...might need to ask for fractal(mandelbulb) help...I'm great at begging! lol

Not into layering yet as it's something I haven't learned or needed in anyone of my scenes thus far ...but for you it seems you'll get the proper advice and make a go at it as you pick up on things so quickly(smile)..Wonderful Work using Terragen Peedy!... -Will-

I do a lot of modeling in VUE, and in VUE8 I would regard the sharpness as not having enough polygons on the nearest rocks. Polygons that are too big always give sharp edges. You could "subdivide" the surface, then smooth it. If you can find out how to do this in Terragen, you would have a new tool. While this is useful, I respectfully suggest a much better solution is to avoid the problem altogether. How? Cover up anything that bugs you with foliage. Since the lit areas are green, foliage will grow there. In real life it would almost certainly do so. Adding organic greens is only logical. You have a lot of choices... trees, bushes, weeds, ground cover, or grass. When using trees or bushes you can rotate them like any 3D model. This can increase the beauty of the scene you are trying to produce. In this case, three small shrubs placed strategically would make the whole scene look wonderful. Do you use site mail? In the upper right corner, it's the first thing below "member links."
