Description

Back again to spaceships! This is my first render with Bryce 7 Pro. Bryce 7 Pro is almost usless and too much bugged. All the interesting new features require a powerful PC and days of render if you are interested (like me) to do high resolution renders... and because I work as illustrator I don't have days for a render, so Bryce 6 or Bryce 4 are better for me. This render take me 12 hours in Default quality, and it came out almost such as a Bryce 4 Render - I think that with Bryce 4 would take less than 30 minutes... :( It take so many time just because I've used 5 "sphere fill light" to improve the shadows generated by the backlight (great new light effect but bad render time). And more: in Bryce 7 Pro the HDRI illumination does not work properly, and the instacing lab crash the program every time unless you use primitive shapes... by the way: Bryce 7 Pro is used to crash often if you are used to work quickly... :( Anyway...rendered in Bryce 7, Background in Bryce 4 (it was and old background starfield made by me), composing, effects (engines glare and general glare) and color correction in Photoshop 6. The original file is 3636x2284 pixels. Comments and rates are welcomed! :) Luca Oleastri (a.k.a. duo, a.k.a. Thanks for the heads up. I do have a semi powerful PC but I am afraid it might be like this. Nice image and like the green exhaust. HDRI and GI normally slow renders to a crawl though with any program. In Messiah it goes from 20 seconds to ten minutes.

First business...AWESOME SCENE!!..Beautiful detail and solid design makes for an EXCELLENT rendering!... Been considering Bryce 7 Pro...as for Bryce 5.5...I think it is slowly dying because it never used to crash until I got into more detail and lighting and was one reason I was looking into Bryce 7. But your not the 1st that have stated some "Pro's and Cons" about the new version.I know it's not my system that can't handle it so before I commit I'll keep reading the statements about the newer version and hopefully by then they will have figured out the bugs...Thanks for your incite on using Bryce 7 and good luck with future renders...may the force be with you....sorry I couldn't resist....lol... -Will-

Sad to see Bryce stumbling around like this. Bryce 5.5 sent me into the arms of Vue (which hasn't always been so stable for that matter). Even so, you have still come up with the goods with this picture.

Wonderful render!!!!! A couple of things for you to consider. You can trust my feedback on this because I am the guy who literally wrote the book on the new lights. I personally wrote the original specs for the new light lab that Daz3d used to develop these tools. (but don't tell anybody!) Part of the reason why it took so long to render might be due to the number of lights you used. 3D Fill lights are cluster configuration sources, so they are like a group of radials, not at all like a single radial at all. If the quality of the Fill is 16, then this is very similar to adding in 16 separate radial lights. If you used soft shadows, you are in trouble bug time. Never use soft shadows with cluster formation light sources, they give soft shadows automatically due to their 3d nature. So if you are using 5 fills even without soft shadows, I can see how your render might have taken a little while. Part of the problem is that the official documentation on the new lights is not ready yet, so you have no way to know this stuff unless someone (me) tells you. So anyhow, 3d Fills are different from domes in that domes arrange virtual lights around the outer edge of a geometry shape, but fills literally occupy the "volume" of the area with lights. So in theory 3d fills provide much better angular coverage than domes in complex situations. What you should have done was to use only 1 3d Fill, just make it large enough for your ships to fit well inside of it. Adjust the quality of the single fill until you are happy with the shadows. Hope this is helpful info.

Very nice image! Based on your feedback, I'm glad I installed Bryce 7 Pro in parallel, but I haven't had much time to play with it yet.

Really well done, considering your problems getting to this finished image.I am working through Bryce7 Pro myself right now, have had a couple of crashes and very long render times for small image sizes...I wish it had come with a manual to give insight into the new features! I'm sure once these are properly described, that we Bryce users will like the new version more...hopefully!

Wonderful results, though! Sorry to hear about your problems, I just bought 7 and I haven't tried it yet. Great explanation from Rashad there, I took a copy of it for future study.
