Description

...all of my British airplane friends (as well as a lot of other nutters like us) will love this...a WWII British Spitfire Mk.Vc just starting up...with a big plume of white smoke belching forth from the V-12 Rolls Royce Merlin 45 engine. Photographing the plume is something relatively rare (it is over in about 30 seconds). For you non-aviation folks, have no concern, this is all very normal:) This was captured yesterday at a "fly-day" at Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection, Paine Field, Washington. For the record: Pilot is Steve Hinton, famous movie pilot and President of Planes of Fame, Chino, California. Wish he'd been wearing a period flight helmet too... Zoom worthy. Wish I could add a sound track to this for you all. Bill:) P.S. Here's a link in my gallery for this same plane sitting quietly on display in the hanger. thumb_2016916.jpgClick Image "Backyard Foxglove" thumb_2093798.jpg

Impressive photos, Bill! That would be something to experience. I can almost hear the thunder of that engine waking up, and almost smell the smoke! Excellent series and collage!

Fantastic capture Bill! I am envious - the lighting under cloudy skies is wonderfully subdued. Very well done, Clive

Nice. Good move standing by the side, as these are called spitfires for a reason :) When one of these fires up they can spit oil, which can add to the summer airshow experience, but not so good for the camera lens!

Thanks for these rare photos. Spit-fire and smoke they do. And you got some nice propeller blur there, too. Keep up the good work! :)

and liftoff.... Great POV, clarity and a usually elusive propeller blur in this cool collage, Bill. I suspect you gotta be on the ground to capture both the crisp sharpness of the aircraft and the blur of the props. And I've seen that temporary ejection of smoke in many a war movie.
