My corporeal form lives with my wonderful wife and six eccentric cats in beautiful Sedgefield, but my dreaming body is frequently elsewhere, exploring the fractal universe and marveling at nature's chaos. I love traveling to places that exist only as mathematical constructs on my computer and bringing back snapshots that sometimes remind me of the real world (whatever that means), sometimes of metamagical worlds we can visit only in our imaginations. I trained as a biologist and run a small company specialising in science publishing - writing, editing, illustrating and typesetting. For 3D world building I use Vue, Daz Studio and Poser, but I've also used Bryce since version 2 and done some work with Terragen, Carrara and Groboto. For technical illustration I use mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of Renderosity, and to everyone who has kindly commented on my images or added my works as a favourite, thank you for that too. Craig.

Craig, let me start by saying that your comments & thoughts & feelings in my gallery are exquisite, and I'm enormously grateful for whenever you come by, esp as I've commented so much less than you have (in all galleries, incl yours). But mostly, because you're so very receptive & sensitive to my art. I am truly grateful for that. As for the image, I like to go back for a few, because of all I missed; and I'm surprised I didn't comment on this, since I've been a musician since childhood. I know you're a musician too, and play/have played in bands---you say so above & on other occasions. It shows! The focussing center here is the apo flame that emanates from this lutenist, a visual representation of the music itself. It's very keenly done because it's almost as if it's projected on the wall behind her, so we can see it even if she doesn't look. And you use a very cinematic angle, w/ the artist at the left edge and then playing out into the image's center through the lute's neck. I assume angles like this take great skill in 3D. (It's not easy in 2D, believe me.) And the detail in the lute is stunning, not only for the number of strings, but their complex paths & conjunctions. Further, you show an intuitive knowledge of classical style in that her thumb is 'behind' the neck rather than wrapped around it (it's a thick neck, yes, but the classical style asks that the player place the thumb as close to the center of the neck as possible, rather than wrap it around, as is more common in pop & some jazz styles). And the detail on the woman is near photographic in quality. I had to look to see it was actually Poser. A simple & beautiful conception of music and its 'auras', w/ a very dynamic angle as well. Fine work, clearly done by a musician. And that's a whale of a lute. I'd like to get my hands on it. (Or something from the lute family...) (Re my favs---I still haven't done anything about them, I just got lazy, writing to the site, working out snags, etc...I will. But know you get a boatload of them each time I'm here. So, for all of my comments, consider them fav'd. Your one of our most sensitive & fine artists, and your gallery is worth all the gifts it can receive.)
