Gomphocerippus rufus / Caelifera from the family of grasshoppers (Acrididae). ORTHOPTERA Cavallette e Grilli Gli Ortotteri sono insetti comunemente chiamati Cavallette, Grilli e Locuste. Possiedono taglia medio-grande con capo voluminoso e corpo robusto. Caratteristiche sono le zampe posteriori maggiormente sviluppate e adatte al salto. Il nome Orthoptera deriva dal greco ptera = ala, orthos = diritto o rigido. Infatti, nelle forme alate, le ali anteriori (tegmine) sono più coriacee di quelle posteriori. L’emissione di suoni caratterizza questi insetti. Gli Ortotteri emettono il loro tipico canto, generalmente, in due modalità diverse: attraverso lo sfregamento delle tegmine oppure sfregando i femori posteriori sulle tegmine.
