Description

Brown Buffalo Spirit of strength and independence Your deep connection to Mother Earth Tells us to honor the sacredness of all creatures To protect those who are endangered To respect all paths, though they may be different than ours To praise all that nature and life has given us And peace and abundance will flow into our world. Spirit Of The Buffalo prose by Carol Cavalaris © Credits: Another in my Dream Catcher series, paying tribute to the power, strength, and survival of the magnificent buffalo, the spirit animal of abundance. Created in Photoshop CS, using buffalo photos, painting techniques, and dream catcher and Native American feathers by pixels29. there's a now-famous tale of how a Native American had a dream that a mountain opened up and all the buffalo stampeded into the opening and then were no more. It was an apocalyptic dream of the end of the buffalo and (by extension) the end of the Native American presence in America. Buffalo, to many of us, are like a mythic creature until we're privileged to see a herd of them: In herd, in the wild, they stand like huge-shouldered, hunched gods & goddesses, they move slowly as if they had nothing to fear; and, despite their fierce look, they embody the kind of energy & spirit that conjures awe, especially as you see them graze slowly with such gentleness. You captured that mix of fierce power & gentleness in this beautiful portrait. The upper buffalo has amazing attention to detail (in the hair, eye, lips, even in the horn), and you've applied your usual rippling light & shade which gives its hair a gentle energy which seems to come from within. While the buffalo's eye is normally separated by a lessening of the hair, you've made it stand out a little more, so that it seems eloquent & articulate. Then the racing buffalo, below, looking at us as if to check us out (but not caring enough to stop), is in a wonderful posture, and you've articulated its coat with deep purple shadows and a prairie-golden top. Very fine choices. And, typical of your attitude towards animals, it's engulfed by the body of the upper buffalo, whose coat canopies the lower one as if in protection. You do this in your animal series: You create a protection and care between your animals in the way you place them and articulate their coats, manes, etc. And in your also typical fashion, you've faded the ancient prairie into the dream catcher so that it's present but also melded into the power of the catcher itself; and surrounded it all with your usual undulating (and caressing) space. A beautiful and actually soft vision of these fiery & powerful animals, and of course filled with the love you carry for all of them.
