Gli Ortotteri sono insetti comunemente chiamati Cavallette, Grilli e Locuste. Possiedono taglia medio-grande con capo voluminoso e corpo robusto. Caratteristiche sono le zampe posteriori maggiormente sviluppate e adatte al salto. Il nome Orthoptera deriva dal greco ptera = ala, orthos = diritto o rigido. Infatti, nelle forme alate, le ali anteriori (tegmine) sono più coriacee di quelle posteriori. L’emissione di suoni caratterizza questi insetti. Gli Ortotteri emettono il loro tipico canto, generalmente, in due modalità diverse: attraverso lo sfregamento delle tegmine oppure sfregando i femori posteriori sulle tegmine. In Europa sono presenti circa 900 specie, in Italia oltre 300.
Grasshoppers and Crickets
The insects are commonly called Orthoptera Grasshoppers, Crickets and Locusts. They have medium-large head with large and robust body. Features are more developed and the hind legs adapted for jumping. Orthoptera The name derives from the greek = pter wing orthos = right or disk. In fact, in winged forms, the forewings (tegmina) are more leathery than the hindlimbs. The emission of sound characteristic of these insects. The Orthoptera are shedding their traditional singing, usually in two different ways: by friction or rubbing of tegmina tegmina on the hind femora. In Europe there are about 900 species, over 300 in Italy.
