Description


The Doomstone is a l2th-century carved slab possibly from the west front of the Norman cathedral. The carving shows a scene from the Last Judgement of wicked souls being pitched into hell by devils.

Wow...that's quite a carving. And the lighting and fence and barred window add to the atmosphere nicely. It almost makes it feel as if it is some very evil object that needs to be locked away in a dark, secure place. Well, there goes my imagination again, LOL.

They were very skilled at carving back then. It would have been interesting to see the entire facade this stone came from. The setting and lighting make this particularily dramatic. The light gives a good rendering of the details. The shift from light to shadow enhances the dramatic subject. Keep up the good work. :)
