Description

I'm a California girl thru and thru. I was born here, have lived here most of my life--and I love it. No matter where I go, what I see, this is always home. There are some sights that are just so perfectly apt--and this is one of the---the rolling hills covered with oak trees. You see them all over the state; this particular spot was somewhere between Yosemite and Truckee, along Hwy 120. This is not a road for the faint of heart. It climbs to Tioga Pass, which tops out at over 10,000 feet. It also has some of the most magnificent scenery anywhere. I admit it, I am a bit prejudiced, but it's hard not to be. Most of all, I just consider myself lucky to live here and I'll never get enough of sights such as this!!

Oh yeah I know what you mean. I camped at Ellery Lake one year. I can remember the nights being a tad cold!

You know, I look at this and think it's someplace to get THROUGH on the way to what I want to see. Beige just doesn't do it for me. I absolutely LOVE the greens and golds of the near field, though. Gorgeous!!

You've caught the California essence perfectly.

I have lived and traveled all over this country. I have seen deserts, mountains, valleys, dunes, forests and prairies...but none all in one state. California has all terrains within its boundaries. Lovely shot and so very "home."

A most poignant presentation, Maz! But let's get real. I'm an old time Californian myself, been here a zillion years since I was 2-1/2, and I've seen it go from what you've described above all the way to a bankrupt, overpopulated and overtaxed state, just teeming with illegal aliens.

This certainly is a California shot during the dry season. The question that I have to ask is - were you driving at the time you took this shot? :>) As my mentor - I need to know. Dana

A sight like this one reminds you of just how whompin' big this planet is, and how much stuff is on it! I love the golden hues in this, and the way those trees look so tiny! This is quite a shot, and I love the way parts of it seem painted.
