------------- The Black Gryphon - Aerronwyn
“To know the heart of darkness is to know one’s own worst fate. But in darkness, some seek solace and strength.” – Cameron Quinn.
In all things there is balance. When a people grow too soft, a hardship will come to them to point out their weakness and cause them to grow strong again,… or die. When a great evil rises in the east, a righteous light of goodness will beckon from the west. Rot and decay of a dying civilization feeds the roots of the next great civilization to come. For every band of stalwart heroes of light and truth, there are bands of dark souled, hateful men and women who would bring about pain and suffering for their own amusement. These are the stories of the Black Gryphon.
Forged as an extension of the Cult of the Black Flame long before the name of Silver Gryphon was ever conceived, the Black Gryphon had its ups and downs, disbanded several times and came back together as the threat to the Cult grew. These are the members of that bleak band who arose in the summer of 18566.
Their core was not of the Cult. They were not so much dedicated to the worship of Anthraxus, but to death and destruction itself. The first was, as fate would have it, darker than the rest, for not only did she worship death itself, she was half shadow fey. Born of a Sylvisan mother from a Shadar’kai father, Aerronwyn Blackmane grew up alone, hated, outcast and without hope. The darkness and depression took root in her and grew like an undead treant. Though she was drawn to the woods, she was equally drawn to the shadows. There, alone, she sought solace beneath the fading leaves. There she found the Dark Druids, or they her. In her, they saw a kindred spirit, one who could be molded to their agenda, the final, absolute destruction of all life, everywhere. Many years later Aerron returned to the world of men, changed,… powerful, a Dark Druid herself.
It was in the northern reaches of the Pouarr Nation, on the edge of the borders with Carellon and Foxmoor that she came upon others of like intent. She met the mad Necromancer, Alred Akashis, and the half-Drow, Vhaerynandra Aurganzhil, and the three began to travel together. But it was not until they met the strange Heru-ur/Fellnari, Xander Griffith, that they knew what fate had deemed. Here, surely, was the sign of the Black Gryphon. There is security in numbers, and strength in the shadows.
