Description
Castillo De San Marco was built by Spain started 1672 completed 1695...in St. Augustine, Florida....It is the oldest masonry fort and the best preserved example of a Spanish colonial fortification in the continental United States....Tho it is scarred from many different wars and battles over it's 300 yrs it was never defeated.

Wonderful shot! I have been to that fort many times. (I am originally from Jacksonville). I like it at night better than during the day personally.

Wonderful photo! It's nice to see that there's stuff that old over on this side of the pond--though a lot of Central and South American Native populations built some pretty solid stuff too. Yeah, okay, and in the Southern USA there are mounds, but unfortunately they're just...well...mounds and so incredibly easy to miss! THIS on the other hand is fantastic, eye-grabbing, and deliciously old, and it's stone-work, which is something that I simply adore. This is fantastic work.
