Description

It was a cloudy rainy day on Sunday when Cape Town said goodbye to one of its landmarks - the Pinelands Power Station cooling towers. Given the top left shot that I managed in the traffic last week, I decided to go to the University of Cape Town campus for the best accessible view. So did half of the city - well those who did not just park on the free-ways anyway. The second shot on the left was my first of the implosion - there has been much debate about why it was imploded 4 minutes before the scheduled time. Hence I only caught the second tower half way down. Thankfully it was a damp day as a the dust cloud was minimised by the light rain. Getting off the campus afterwards was another saga - two hours before the bottle-neck where I parked finally started to move! Four hours later I did manage to get a closer shot of the remaining rubble. It was a 5 second event which many missed - a let down?! Have a great day! Clive
