*************** Details of the Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei quatro Fiumi) made by Bernini. This fountain stands in Rome, on the Piazza Navona and was an order of the Pope Innocent X. Four rivers, one per continent, are represented by human beings. There is the Danube (Europe), the Ganges (Asia), the Nile (Africa) and the Rio de la Plata (America). There is no river from Oceania because this continent was unknown in this century. *************** Détail de la Fontaine des Quatre Fleuves conçue par le Bernin Cette fontaine se situe à Rome, sur la Place Navone (Piazza Navona) et était une commande du Pape Innocent X. Quatre fleuves, un par continent, sont représentés par des êtres humains. Il y a le Danube (pour l'Europe), le Nil( pour l'Afrique), le Gange (pour l'Asie) et le Rio de la Plata (pour l'Amérique) Aucune rivière n'est représentée pour l'Océanie qui était encore inconnue à cette époque ! *************** Enjoy it full size !
