Description
This image is dedicated to Chip, because it was his talking of Kafka and e-ghosts that inspired me. The street is a portion of San Pietro street in Padova, in front of the house of a friend of mine. We were back from a good meal at one of the pretty, small reastaurants nearby. I got the chance to take some night shots of the narrow, porched streets just behind what remains of the medieval walls. Here there was the first Jew community before they moved closer to the market and the university in the 16th and 17th centuries, so the area is currently outside the Old Ghetto of Padova.Looking at the dark caves between the thick, low-ceilinged porches covering flagged pavements, and the ancient cobble-stoned street, I thought of those who had walked along it. I wondered whether memories of the past may linger like perfums or smell tracks do ... and I added the two ghostlike figures in the postwork to re-capture the fleeting glimpse in the past I lived that night.
Thank you for your kind comments.

As you can see, I have a lot of catching up to do! And what fun it is! I love this image. Those colors are astounding...I think that night shots are a wonderful challenge because there's so much color to capture, but never in a straightforward way...it's like you have to approach photography sideways to get it. I really love old streets like this, especially when they're so alive with light from inside of apartments or even stores that are closed for the night. There always seem to be ghosts as well...not necessarily supernatural ghosts, but a mass of "fingerprints" that let you know that people have lived here (as they do now) and that there are stories to tell, or to listen to if you have the ear for it. I love the details and the addition of the two ghostly figures. It's hilarious because the two figure seem posed rather like a certain photographer from Chicago, and a rather creatively eccentric Czech friend off in search for beer! Mmmm...beer! This is a gorgeous shot and a wonderful dedication. Thank you! This is marvelous! Really inspiring too! WOW! I love it!

A beautiful night shot of the ancient town and an excellent tribute to Chip. The pale ghosts are a clever creative flourish that makes one think of all the people the must have walked this night passage down through the centuries. In good times and bad.
