Description

The Tarasque-class battlecruiser was originally designed for use by the Terran Protectorate, but the cost, and the inability to meet the Protectorate's high production requirements kept the ship from receiving a military contract. Instead, the manufacturer, Hashimaru Aerospace Industries, began a limited release edition for corporate paramilitary organizations, planetary militias, and high-end mercenary groups. The ship is highly controversial, as it is the first vessel ever rated as a battlecruiser to be sold on the open market. But many people think the controversy, and public sale is a ruse. There is a persistent rumor that Hashimaru and the Terran Protectorate did reach a top secret agreement to manufacture the ship for use with the Protectorate's special forces units and then gave the company express permission to sell the ship to the public. Why? So that the ships used by the Terran Protectorate's undercover forces could be mistaken for mercenaries, corporate interests and others. The public sale of the vehicles provides Spec Ops ships a reliable cover when operating outside of the protectorate, if the rumor is true. The rumor also claims that the public sale vehicles have reduced armor, weapons power and speed. This would explain why there are more sightings of these ships than seem to be accounted for by Hashimaru's sales.
