Description

The walk along the stone path is a welcome relief from the oppressive summer heat. It is cool and dark except for the shafts of light that manage to slip throught the spaces between the torii. A person who has been successful in business often donates a torii to the shrine in gratitude. Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto has ten thousand of such torii, each bearing the donor's name.

A very interesting and somewhat surreal image, Mark. It's like a scene from Kurosawa's film Dreams. Also a little like a location on Vulcan.  :-)  I always felt Roddenberry grounded his concepts of Spock's world within Japanese culture and custom. The grain is an assist to this photograph.  It plays well with the color shifts of the red and purple adding to the dreamlike atmosphere. I prefer that there is no one in the scene.  We can easily imagine an unspoken invitation to enter on our own adventure.  The composition also helps to engage the viewer more than straight-on view. I like this work very much. With warmth, Terry

Wow, how did I miss this? It's not like it is tiny! Excellent info and capture! I love the strips of light, curve in the path and long line of the Torii. In Medieval Europe a phrase like there were ten thousand soldiers just meant there were a LOT of soldiers. Is it the same here? I mean who has counted them really? I'd lose my place way before one thousand. I love this image! Beautifully shot! I also love that there are no people in the scene. It adds to the magic and there is a lot of magic here. It must have been a wonderful feeling walking through them. I am so behind on commenting, but I will catch up with your other recent posts soon. I have looked and enjoyed!
