So this was my entry to the Smith Micro weekly contest for "Woman in a Temple with a Sword" theme. Maybe not quite what is generally seen for the genre, eh?
You can check out the winning entries here:

Oh and for a little background info: Nike (meaning Victory) was the goddess of, well, Victory :) Most times she's portrayed with her wings as she flew around battlefields granting honour to warriors - sorta like the Valkyries later did too.
One of the most famous of these statues is now prominently displayed in the Louvre,Paris - the Winged Nike of Samothrace. Unfortunately on the Greek island of Samothrace only a plaster replica remains.

I do so enjoy spending time with your historical/mythical creations. There are not many pursuing these topical streams, fewer still who craft their inspiration as finely. What is interesting to my eyes is how much I prefer the 3D "look", through your hands, as opposed to a painted interpretation of this scene. There's life in this work. As a photographer I can say that this same result could not be attained with a camera. The quality of the statue lends the sensation that she could come to life at any moment. There were rituals in parts of the ancient world, Egypt for instance, where stone works were vested with spirit. It would not be a far stretch, within an elder imagination, to await a manifestation of Nike through this statue. Of course I am rambling here, but not, I sense, to an unsympathetic audience. ;-) Simply stated: this is exceptional craft; beautiful to my senses. With warm regards, Terry
