Description

Kimmeridge Bay Dorset, the rocks were formed in the Jurassic period 155 million years ago. The cliffs and foreshore contain a thick sequence of Kimmeridge clay. The sequence of rocks here provide such an excellent record of this part of the Jurassic that geologists have adopted Kimmeridgian as the term for rock of this age all around the world. There are massive limestone pavements exposed at low tide making it easy to view wildlife of the shore in the many rockpools. Kimmeridge bay is now part of the Purbeck marine wildlife reserve managed by the Dorset Wildlife trust. I have photographed in mostly an abstract fashion some of the amazing landscapes at my feet, it was a real eye opener to the intricate patterns that nature provides. Please zoom.
