Description
A shot I took in early July in the Euganean Hills near Padova. A dandelion is called lion's tooth in Italian, Loewenzahn in German, French dent-de-lion, and El pisacà n (dog's piss o radecio de can- dog's radicchio) or pisa in leto (piss-in-bed) in Venetian. In modern French the plant is named pissenlit, (or pisse au lit French vernacular). Likewise, piss-a-bed is an English folk-name for this plant, as is piscialletto in Italian and the Spanish meacamas. These names refer to the strong diuretic effect of the roots of the herb, eaten roasted or raw/fresh. In various north-eastern Italian dialects the plant is known as pisacà n (dog's piss), referring to how common they are found at the side of pavements, where dogs often urinate. In the Veneto this plant is used in the local recipes and it figured prominently in the poor people's tables when this was a very destitute area before WW2.

Interessante dissertazione sul piscialletto ( io lo conosco così) .Bella foto, Sandra ! Anch'he ho immortalato spesso questi semplici fiori che un po' mi hanno accompagnato per tanti anni e li ho ancora in giardino.

Excellent capture of perspective, color and framing. The flowers seem to glow with an innter light of their own. We have a naturalized lawn in a development where every one else has sod, so we are kinder to our plants than some. I will share your words with my wife, for they are excellent in their instructional value.

I love a post that goes into such things as the structures of names...and it's hilarious that connections to urine are connected with this plant that is as common as...well...dog urine in places where you'd probably rather not consider the presence of so ubiquitous a substance. And the colors are quite lovely here! I love the warm shades and the details, the intensity of the whole shot! This is great! Wonderful reading too. All around, this is superb.
