Description

The next couple of hours were a blur in Chi's mind. They had crisscrossed the streets and alleys of Torkay, doubled back, and gone through all kinds of maneuvers to confuse anybody possibly following them. The male Earther rarely said anything, usually grabbing or shoving her where he wanted them to go. They ended up spending the night in a safe house of some sort. It was a damp basement; small and uncomfortable. Nevertheless, after devouring some awful tasting packets of food, Chi quickly fell into a deep sleep--deeper than any she'd had for a week. It was still dark, when the Earther woke her up. "Let's go!" he said. "No time to waste." Gripping her wrist, he headed outside. Chi stumbled after him in the dark. "Where are you taking me?" "Be quiet!" He never answered her question, preferring to concentrate on wherever he was taking her. Chi had had enough. She pulled her wrist out of his grasp. "I'm royalty! You ignore me at your peril. Answer my question!" The Earther turned upon her, eyes blazing. "Where I come from, you're no better than anybody else!" he hissed. "I'm not your servant! I've a job to do--and I'm good at doing it, so let me." He paused a moment, then added; "You'll find out where you're going when we get there. Now, shut up!" He grabbed back her risk and took off at a brisk pace. It was obvious that this part of Torkay was seedy and rundown. It was about a half hour before dawn, when they stopped in front of sort of storage building. It had a door large enough for most vehicles, but the Earther used some sort of unlocking device on a smaller door to the right. There were no windows. The Earther shut the door and Chi heard the lock mechanism click. Only then, did her guide turn on the interior lights. There was no furniture of any kind, but there was a sleek aircar. The doors lifted with a quiet whirring. "Get in!" The Earther pointed to the opposite side of the aircar. Chi didn't argue this time. She got in. Chi hurried around the front of the vehicle but by the time she reached the door, the Earther was already in the driver's seat. She wasted no time getting seated. The doors were closed and the aircar hummed to life. The large door opened and the aircar shot out of the building. It skimmed down the alley about an arm length above the ground. Reaching the street, the aircar turned and then rose rapidly into the sky to about half the height of the larger Torkay buildings. The Earther skillfully piloted the aircar around the structures, using them to obscure their passage as much as possible. Shortly, they left the fringes of the city and flew over the countryside. Again, the Earther kept the aircar flying very close to the ground. It scared Chi; it exhilarated her. TO BE CONTINUED. Been holding onto this one for a long time, trying to figure out how to make the background blur while not blurring the aircar. I'm sure there is an easier way, but I finally did it the hard way: Cutting out pixel by pixel the aircar, then pasted over the aircar in the blurred version. Sigh. Nice effect. You could do two renders, one of just the car, the other of the background, then blur the background layer and combine them. It would be easy using a mask on the car render. Don't know how to do that in Vue (because I'm ignorant), but its easy in Bryce.

Agree with geirla on the use of a mask render to make it easier, although you get extra points for patience in your approach!Nicely done!
