Description

This is the door to Memorial Chapel at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The church was built in 1878 from local stone, and the building crew was a prison labor force.

Interesting history, I hope that crew got some kind of special grave for doing the work. The foto is beautiful, has a soft, dreamy quality to it.

You were there and not I... my only question here is why off-center? Just a question... but the colors and textures are amazing. Well seen!

A-1 composition...like the way you've balanced the roundedness of the door with the angular lines of the woodwork on the upper left. Your postwork both brings out the texture of the stone and somehow gives the rich wood in the door a glow...IMHO:) Nicely done!

Beautiful ironwork. I really like the color and texture on the door. Hopefully their training as stone masons gave the prisoners a way to make an honest living if and when they were released.

Beautiful shot, Tara! As many times as I've been to Ft. Leavenworth, I've never noticed these doors. I should look around a little more!

WOW! Get a load of that wood! It's alive and glowing. Makes me think that someone other than a bunch of miscreants doing penance built it! Hmmm...maybe the Wood-folk are responsible? That would explain it's glow as if it's made of living wood! I love the contrast of that door to the stone, the different textures you've captured so perfectly. WOW! This is amazing! On another note, it makes me think that Kutna Hora--a rather historically rich, gorgeous, and wacky little Czech town--is on the other side of it. Funny how doors make me think along those lines and some chapel/church doors make me think of how wonderful it would be to cross vast distances simply by crossing a threshold! I love it when art evokes these feelings (and longings) in me...so many possibilities open up, and it's so fitting that a door would symbolize that! WOW! This piece really got to me in the best possible way. Well done...or as Victor would say: This is enough seriouse work. Is good. Yeah, he even pronounces that extra "e" in serious...like a tiny, little, half-spoken room addition on the "s". Oooh, my mind's all over the place tonight! That's a good thing though. And again, great work...
