Description

Recent environmental research has demonstrated that fractal branching and spiraling patterns found in forest plants reveal specific ratios that can be used to predict growth and distribution in an entire forest. This prediction tool provides a rapid estimation technique of a forest’s greenhouse gas absorption capability without the time consuming process of surveying the entire forest. Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks describe a ratio of branch diameters in trees to the size of the trunk (= 0.707). This was observed long before fractals were discovered but it is a fractal observation nevertheless (I would expect nothing less from so brilliant a mind). This image specifically demonstrates the fractal branching rule. Created in Ultra Fractal. The image is quite complex and the number of formulas and layers are probably best relegated to geeks like me. If, however, you are a geek like me and would like to know, feel free to enquire.

Very Beautiful work, i find it amazing the more i learn about fractals and thier relation to the real world outside of art. Your images routinely help demonstrate the work of a very skilled artisan.

Beautiful fractal garden! And I appreciate the explanation. I'm not a geek, didn't know that, and probably will never use it, but I can admire and respect it! Excellent work! Linda
