Description

The reptilian race known as the Mogg'theran, who once ruled the Empire of Many Suns, elevates the position of starship pilot to one of high honor. Known as the Disciples of Sylkar, Mogg'theran pilots have turned interstellar flight and navigation into something that is part knighthood and part secret society. More than almost any other species in known space, the Mogg'theran Honored Pilot is taught to understand the very nature of space-time, gravity, relativity, astrogation, astrophysics and high math. What's more, they must be able to summon these skills at a moment's notice, often while in combat or attempting to maneuver several million tons of starship with laser precision. And every maneuver, navigational computation and course plotting procedure is done mentally, with minimal computer assistance (nothing more than what we would consider a calculator). These things are also kept secret, passed down only from mentor to student. There are no large schools or classes. This skill is known, to the Mogg'theran, as the Discipline of the Stars. The title of Honored Pilot is only conveyed to those who fly ships that go faster than light. Fighter pilots are known simply as warriors, and those who pilot shuttles and other non-FTL ships are simply referred to as drivers or operators.

I like the image and story. The image reminds me of a WW II plane cockpit, but with more ergonomic controls. Though I can't fathom what the things are that are pointed at the pilot's neck.
