Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

I remember the night you took this picture! Borders Books is right there and we were just inside...looking at something. I think I might have purchased something as well, though now I can't remember. Oh well...but hey, this is a great shot. I love night time photography, especially if it's urban; you really caught the urban vibe here. I love the colors and the sense of buzzing electricity in the air. Downtown gets that way at times and yeah, photographing is is free which makes it twice the fun. This is a great shot, especially in terms of the human focus. Great stuff!

This has such a familiar look and feel to it. It's been almost a year since that ninja experience and it seems like yesterday. Great shot, full of life and light and people moving everywhere!!

Oooooooohh ... I like this VERY much! It has such a great vibe ... I can feel what it's like walking down a Chicago street. You've brought me with you, and it's like I'm standing there making this picture. Immediate and vibrant!

I love shows and can not afford them often, even the greatly reduced, on the road ones, that we get here. I love your image! There is the overall golden glow of night lights in a city and excellent details. The composition of people in motion is wonderful. One individual moving perpendicular to the wave of pedestrians, and one leaning against the wall with only the glow of a cigarette to indicate motion. I love the balls of light and the square reflections of light on the pavement, the strides of the pedestrians beneath the long strides of a turkey in a pilgrims hat, and the feeling of a city in motion. Excellent shot!

Great shot Corey. State Street has changed since I saw it last. Gives me butterflies just looking at the busyness of it. They roll up the sidewalks at 5 PM in downtown Venice. Have forgotten how much life there is after dark in a big city. You captured it beautifully. Wish I was there.

I'm with Chip. I love night time photography. It's magic.. all the flaws seen in the harsh daylight are hidden, and the signs, buildings, streets etc take on a new life, as if the moonlight and artificial lights, and passing cars resuscitate life back into the city. I'm strange, what can I say.. lol.

Really nice shot Corey - you caught the electricity of downtown Chicago right on!
