Description

Dedicated to my late Dad, who loved Elephants. In the deep-green depths of the Knysna forest lives the last, tiny remnant of the once great herds of Cape bush elephant. Of the original group just one female remains, though three elephants were recently brought in from the Kruger National park. According to forestry records 12 elephants survived by 1920 and in 1962 only 10 were counted. After having remained static for 50 years, the Knysna elephant population decreased rapidly and in 1983 only four were recorded. This population crash was merely the dying out of the old animals. Info from Encounter, South Africa. Find out more from http://www.encounter.co.za/article/176.html I live fairly close to where these ellies live, at one time there used to be a sign that said 'Beware of the Elephants' but I don't think it's there anymore:-(. Daz Elephant and the Daz 'forest' environment. Postworked in CS3, I painted a different eye, the Daz eye was aweful!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it! Luv Ya!! Sylvia

wow ... looks so real & it is a sad fact about them too,in the end mainly all wild creatures will be captive animals because that will be the only way they will be brought into the future :

what a wonderful dedication that is! ... even though it is almost letting you touch the sadness through the eye's view of that beautiful animal. At least it is a little comfort that some people do care about them.

I have always strongly believed that the man who poached elephants in any region of the world ignores it poaches its own kind! This one is a thug!

Through the rich diversity of life we have discovered on the earth surely there is nothing as majestic as the elephant. Through sad eyes that seem to convey a longing and sadness for the days before man. When the plains seemed endless and the days needs were met with fresh grazing and pools of the most precious of elements, water. Though the pool is not the elephants alone, they seem to enjoy the bounty in relative peace and safety as a group with a mighty matriarch to lead the herd. Fear inspiring is the sight of an angry bull with ears flaring, the sight would leave any animal in the entire kingdom scurrying for safety. Except for man. The elephants gentleness and seemingly sombre relationship with man may be there only hope of keeping a little bit of paradise left on this ever crowded planet of ours to roam as a family. As the last of the giants walking on our earth. And like many other amazing creatures there fate seems to lay in the hands of humanity. To be wise, fair and generous to all of our planets inhabitants. Sad facts, great post, nice render!

Very nice picture, and a good dedication. That's terrible about the elephants, and hopefully they'll find a way to bounce back.
