Description

One of our stops on the way along the North Shore drive from Duluth was the Cascade River. I enjoyed being on THIS side of Lake Superior, which you can see through the bridge tunnel. You could carefully pass through the tunnel and witness the vastness of the lake or you could play around in the trickling creek. Megan is always agreeable to being my main subject. :-)

I Love this photo and Megan adds a dash of color and that feeling of standing there with your feet in the water just takes an already amazing background and takes it up a few notches. Great shot!

I'm only doing one image per gallery today (and won't be back for a bit), but at least I visited another of your images elsewhere as well. Dealing with 'my lake' (michigan) several mornings a month, I've become very aware of how hard it is to capture a body of water with more than just the usual 'bigness' (easy to capture, hard to capture well). I loved this shot when it went up because we see the vastness of the lake, but it's focussed into something intimate through the bridge and through the creek. It's wonderful how the lake spills into this creek with the rocks and the (I assume) bolders of concrete or stone under the bridge; and maybe that's ore in the red color of the waters close to the front. (I know one sees that color in the upper peninsula of Michigan, where there is ore; I don't know about upper Minnesota though.) And Megan, who is in the center of the shot, nevertheless seems off-center because the bridge isn't centered, and it all gives a very musical counterpoint/play to the piece. Lots of motion, lots of music, and a spill from grand to intimate. Intimate & delicate, and---a key word in your work---wholly natural. And a loving portrait of Megan, who seems perfectly at ease being where she is. Not posed, just natural. A fine capture again, Jodie. And Megan's shirt colors are a great burst against the gentler colors of the rest of the shot.

Your composition speaks volumes, the arch contains the energy of water and youth.
