Description

Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, never flew the number 86 F4-U which was in the last image I posted. That was just a plane for a photo op according to what I found on the internet. However, plane number 883 was actually one he did fly in combat. The pilots of the Black Sheep Squadron never had a personal plane to call their own. They would fly any plane available. "Pappy" would always take the last plane in the row which was the oldest. All this and more can be found out with a search. As for this image, the Black Sheep come across a group of Ki-84 "Franks". In frame 1, Pappy sees them below. In frame 2, the Franks start to scatter as the F4-U's dive down onto them. In frame 3, someone shoots down one of the Frank's and Pappy is lining one up. In frame 4, things get hectic and another Frank goes down. Note: Plane 93 was flown by Lt. Roland Rinaberger who was gravely wounded a few weeks into Sept. 1943. The Corsair model made by Bazze (#29) looks to be the one flown by Ira Kepford US Navy VF-14 according to what I have seen. Thanks for looking Planes by Bazze Pilots are P4 males with simple gear from RDNA Cloud pictures are mine. One day I pointed the camera up to some clouds. :)
