Description

Hi all I hope you aren't all getting bored with my Bungle Bungle images. Due to having a very young family I don't get many chances to go out and take photo's anymore which is pretty hard on me at times. This camping trip was mostly the same but my family all fell asleep at the same time one afternoon so I took my camera and I was off. The time of day wasn't perfect but I took what I could get. This shot got a bit more work than the others, I spent about 5 minutes on it so it's not far off the truth of the place. The Bungles are world famous for their massive "beehive domes" and this pic is one of the smaller groups. These are made of soft mostly white sandstone and are all wind carved. The red bands come from a thin skin of iron oxide (rust) and the black is a very tough form of algae. Tough because this is a desert area in the wet tropics. There is a lot of rain for a short time followed by a long period of blue skies (8 months on average)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!! This is SOOOOOOOOO COOL Martin! What a shot! Personally I think the lighting is near to perfect. The primary subject is nicely illuminated and the colors are rich and deep. I like the way you managed to match a layered cloud to the layered earth too, LOL. WELL done!

Seems I have a bit of catching up to do in your gallery. Can relate to your photo ops getting over ruled or there just isn't enough time...lol Great comp and lighting, the clouds add that extra to complete the atmosphere!
