Description

This is a WIP,transferred from my laptop so I can continue modelling parts for it and tweaking....but I am sharing it now.It is a three stringed BASS,inspired by the old VOX teardrop bass. The original version was polygon heavy...so I am rebuilding it in C4D.It is intended as a prop for a young female MANGA type character (AIKO) who built her own instrument in shop class. As you can see it is a 'mutt',as it has Fender type parts on there too.As always any comments/crits etc are very welcome. composition lovely, colours great... as if base players don't have it easy enough with only 4 strings, now look what you are giving them! next you will be saying they use auto tone adjustment on riick astley and kylie minoque songs... your chrome bits need some deeper tones/reflections they look a bit silverish you do have a nice sense of space and composition friend I like this a lot

I totally agree about the 'chrome'.I'm thinking I might have to tweak specularity etc. and/or put dark reflectors in strategic spots to control reflections and hopefully let details 'read' better. I used to play bass, and I learned that the number of strings on an instrument does not mean it is easier, than say a guitar.Good bass players who know how to 'lay down the bottom',and maintain that groove, are actually rare. Reggae players are experts at this, for example. My idea for the 3-string,is to: (1) show that this young girl who built the bass ,is a free thinker, and (2) a band called MORPHINE had a bass player who used only one string.Back in the old days, poor folk would have a string attached to an inverted washtub to use as a bass.I think jug bands did this also.

A friend turned me on to some clips on youtube of the band MORPHINE. The bass he was using had TWO strings, although in an interview he said he started out with one.Either way ,that was one source of inspiration for the three string concept.
