We got bananas on our trees this year! Not a big deal if you live in South Florida, but this is Memphis, Tennessee! This is a shot of the flower, which blooms in stages. The tiny green bananas behind these flowers are actually part of the same stack. Looks like there are a few more batches still to open up in that big pod. Each batch will first result in more flowers which then turn into more bananas. Quite amazing. Hopefully they'll ripen before the first freeze, even though it's unlikely. That's the problem growing tropical fruit in Memphis. Often the first freeze arrives before the fruit ripens do to our shorter growing season. But maybe we'll make it. Today feels more like August than mid September. marshall
