Description
Meeting:
"You should have killed her a long time ago, you know." The woman spoke quietly as they walked.
"We've been through all of this before. She was no danger before. And if, and remember I'm saying if here, she has found something besides day dreams and ghosts isn't it better that we find out?" He glanced at the woman. "And then it will be time enough to kill her."
"As I recall it was not that she was no danger before, it's that you wanted to bed her."
The big man shrugged. "I could always bed you instead."
"I would rather sleep with a Talusian Demon Leech. It would be more pleasant I think." They walked on slowly and finally she stopped and turned to look at him. "One of these days your antics will cease to amuse me. Beware that day occurring."
"I'm far too useful as the face of the council to the world."
"Do not believe that you are irreplaceable for there does folly truly lay."
"Are you threatening me?"
"I never threaten. Remember that. Now, you will deal with this problem. This has gone on long enough and I have too many other concerns to waste more time on this."
"I'll have to chase her off-world..."
The woman whirled to face him. "You let her get away from you?" For a moment a reddish light seemed to swirl in her eyes. "Yes, you will have to chase her. Do not fail this time. She must die. Or you will die."
"You're really quite good looking when you're mad, you know. You also know she can't truly get away from me. I'll always be able to find her. I think she is on a chase for a chimera, a dream, but I want to be certain first. Crushing the remnants of pathetic traitors would just be the tip of the payoff. But if she is really onto something crushing that would be even better by far, don't you think?" He stopped and smiled at her.
"You play games more dangerous than you know," she warned with an uncustomary snarl. "Very well. I will allow this. It would be best if you can return and report to me success in her death and whatever it is she is seeking, then, perhaps, you will be ready for more in the Council."
"Such sweet carrots you try to dangle before me. You may yet find out that I don't respond well to them. In this case I'm doing what I think needs to be done anyway." He turned and started walking away then turned to look at her over his shoulder. "You might start thinking about where I will fit in the Council. And won't that just annoy them to no end." He laughed and continued on his way.
She stood there for long moments, seeing nothing, then she turned and made her way to her home. Moving through the public rooms she went into her private chamber and approached a wall which seemed solid but parted before her. She entered her private shrine and stared at the altar before her. With a shrug she touched it just so and it opened to reveal a blue, crystalline vial. Deep within it a spark of clear blue light had awoke. She shuddered at seeing it and did not know why.
It had been handed down the line for time beyond reckoning but what it had meant was lost to the passing ages. She had only felt foreboding when she looked at it before when it was only a cold blue inanimate vial. Now the tiny spark of light made her feel something totally unknown to her before. Fear. Of what she did not know.
